What to Watch on Election Night: States That Could Reshape Democratic Power
Election Day is almost here – Democrats have a once-in-a-generation chance to shift the balance of power across the country.Â
Our guide on what to watch on November 3rd comes as the tides are turning away from the disastrous Trump agenda and toward a chance for Democrats to gain seats in every statehouse on the ballot.Â
The DLCC is targeting more than 500 seats across critical state chambers to build a firewall against MAGA-extremism and capitalize on our momentum to protect our democracy from rising authoritarianism. Republicans cannot win on their record alone, so they’re pouring millions of dollars into races across the country to try to salvage their sinking ship. But we are competing everywhere the data shows a path to power.Â
5 battlegrounds to watch on Election Night:
ARIZONA |
||
| Polls Close: 9 pm ET |
State House: GOP Majority
27D – 33RÂ |
State Senate: GOP Majority
13D – 17RÂ |
| DLCC is aiming to flip both chambers of the Arizona Legislature, giving Democrats control of state government alongside a Democratic governor. The GOP has controlled the Senate since the 1990s and the House since the 1960s. Strong Democratic candidates and campaigns have kept the path open for Democrats to flip both chambers. | ||
MICHIGAN |
||
|---|---|---|
| Polls Close: 8 pm ET |
State House: GOP Majority
52D – 58RÂ |
State Senate: Dem Majority 20D – 18R |
| DLCC is focused on winning back the House and expanding Democrats’ Senate majority in this key battleground for only the second time since the 1980s. Republicans have flooded millions into the state, and especially into the most competitive House races, to try to overcome their deep unpopularity, but they are being met by Democrats running strong campaigns in every single district. | ||
MINNESOTA |
||
|---|---|---|
| Polls Close: 9 pm ET |
State House: Tied chamber
67D – 67RÂ |
State Senate: Dem Majority 34D – 33R |
| DLCC is fighting to gain a new majority in the House and protect and expand Democrats’ one-seat majority in the Senate in Minnesota. Minnesota Republicans are prioritizing spending big in the Senate to offset Democratic momentum, but we are confident in our chances. | ||
PENNSYLVANIA |
||
| Polls Close: 8 pm ET |
State House: Dem Majority
103D – 100RÂ |
State Senate: GOP Majority 23D – 27R |
| DLCC is working to expand Democrats’ narrow majority in the House while gaining seats in the Senate, which only has half of its seats on the ballot this year. Democrats have not held a trifecta in Pennsylvania since 1993. | ||
WISCONSIN |
||
| Polls Close: 9 pm ET |
State Assembly: GOP Majority
45D – 54RÂ |
State Senate: GOP Majority 15D – 18R |
| DLCC is ready to flip both chambers of the Wisconsin legislature after more than a decade of disastrous GOP control. Half of the Senate is up for election for the first time under new, fairer maps, and Republican incumbent retirements across the state have increased our chances in both chambers. While the GOP candidates backed by ultraconservative billionaires have brought millions of dollars into the fight, our candidates have remained steady in polls in our target races, including eight districts Trump lost in 2024. | ||
The DLCC will track results across the country and update DLCC.org/Results as races are called. Every seat we win strengthens Democrats’ ability to deliver for working families, defend fundamental freedoms, and build the power our party will need for the fights ahead.
