The Map Just Moved (AGAIN) Toward Democrats
The path to more Democratic power in the states just got wider!
Sabato’s Crystal Ball upgraded Democrats’ chances in 10 state legislative chambers. Yet another sign that Republicans are vulnerable and Democratic power is within reach this November.Â
With fewer than 20 days until the 2026 midterms, Sabato’s Crystal Ball upgraded its rating for 10 state legislative chambers in Democrats’ favor. The shifts confirm what we are seeing across the country: Democrats have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to flip Republican held seats, compete for majorities, and reshape the balance of power in state legislatures.
Here are the eight chambers we’re watching on November 3rd:

These changes did not happen overnight. Cycle over cycle, the DLCC continues to lead the national strategy to build Democratic power across the country’s statehouses by recruiting strong candidates, building and running effective campaigns and creating durable paths to power nationwide.
Now, that work is paying off.Â
Our historic 2026 Target Map highlights the generational opportunities voters have in November to unseat Republicans rubber-stamping the MAGA agenda and stunt the last two years of the disastrous Trump administration.
DLCC President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“These updates reinforce what the DLCC already knows to be true—we’re approaching a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform power at the state legislative level. State legislatures decide everything from redistricting to election administration to civil rights – and the stakes of the 2026 midterms couldn’t be higher. Cycle over cycle, we’ve worked in these states to build a durable path to power, and we are ready to seize this moment. Â
“What we do in these final weeks will be crucial. The data shows that Democrats have unprecedented opportunities and Republicans are vulnerable across the map. The DLCC has the strategy, the candidates, and the momentum to finish strong and deliver historic levels of Democratic power across the nation, but every day between now and the election matters. The results on November third will shape the future of our country ahead of the 2028 elections and for years to come.”
Even as these rating changes show a positive outcome for state Democrats, we still have to cross the finish line on November 3rd – the work we do in these last few days could be what separates us from a victorious night or Republicans cementing themselves into another decade of power.
The opportunity is here. Now, we have to finish the job.
