BREAKING: DLCC Flips Wisconsin Assembly and Senate, Delivering a Democratic Trifecta for the First Time in Over a Decade

Democrats create new blue firewall in a critical battleground ahead of the presidential elections

WASHINGTON — In a massive win for the balance of power in the nation’s statehouses, Democrats have flipped both legislative chambers in Wisconsin creating a Democratic trifecta for the first time since the 2010 Red Wave. Breaking the GOP’s control of the legislature in Wisconsin was a top priority for the DLCC this cycle after years of chipping away at the entrenched Republican majorities on rigged maps. This is a stunning reversal of power in a state where Republicans rigged themselves into majorities for over a decade.

The DLCC has worked hand in hand with our partners in Wisconsin to build power in this ultra-competitive state. Democrats beat back millions in spending from ultraconservative billionaires trying to hold on to a Republican majority. On a record-breaking night for Democrats across the country, Wisconsin proved what is possible when we invest at the state legislative ballot level—solidifying durable Democratic power to protect voting and civil rights, oversee elections, and shape redistricting maps.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“The DLCC and Wisconsin Democrats just delivered one of the biggest political victories of the night. In a stunning reversal of power, Democrats have flipped not one, but both chambers of the legislature to establish a trifecta for the first time since the Red Wave in 2010. Without rigged maps, Republicans counted on conservative billionaires to buy their majorities, but no amount of money could sell their losing message. Our new majorities are ready to start a new chapter for Wisconsin and get to work delivering for their communities.

“This seismic shift in the political balance in Wisconsin is no accident. It is the result of sustained investment and over a decade of chipping away at entrenched Republican power. Tonight’s victory in the Badger State is proof of our strategy to build durable Democratic power. Reaching this benchmark of power in a crucial presidential battleground safeguards the democratic process for the whole country as we look to 2028 and beyond.”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) leads the national strategy to secure Democratic power in our state legislatures. We are the campaign arm for more than 3,000 state legislators and thousands of candidates across all 50 states who are advancing Democratic values and standing up to the dangerous MAGA agenda every single day.
