BREAKING: DLCC Breaks GOP Supermajority in Florida House
Florida Democrats flipped enough seats to shatter GOP’s grip on the statehousE
WASHINGTON — In a stunning victory, Democrats in Florida have successfully flipped enough seats in the House to break the Republican supermajority. Florida Republicans have repeatedly used their unchecked power in the legislature to silence voters, including rushing to pass rigged congressional maps mid-decade. Breaking the House supermajority in Florida was a top priority for the DLCC.
Building durable Democratic power in Florida on aggressively gerrymandered maps takes dedicated work over multiple cycles. The seats we flipped tonight lay the groundwork for a continued strategy to chip away at deeply entrenched Republican power.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“Florida Democrats just delivered a decisive victory and smashed the Republican supermajority in the House. Florida Republicans have abused their power for years to push an unpopular and dangerous agenda, including attacking voting rights and rigging their congressional maps. Now that we have broken the supermajority in the House, Democrats are better positioned to fight back against rampant extremism and protect against attacks on our democracy.
“This critical victory underscores the importance of the DLCC’s work to break entrenched Republican power across the map as part of our strategy to rebuild the Democratic Party from the ground up.”
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) leads the national strategy to secure Democratic power in our state legislatures. We are the campaign arm for more than 3,000 state legislators and thousands of candidates across all 50 states who are advancing Democratic values and standing up to the dangerous MAGA agenda every single day.
