Target Race Launch: DLCC Announces Next Slate of Targets in Michigan
With competitive Senate and Gubernatorial races at the top of the ticket, 2026 is a historic opportunity for Democrats to gain full control of the Michigan Legislature
WASHINGTON—Today, the DLCC announced 15 additional Target Races in the Michigan Legislature to strengthen the Democratic majority in the Senate and flip the House. These 11 House races and four Senate races add to the eight Target Races announced this spring and represent Democrats’ best opportunities to flip seats to win back control of this ultracompetitive battleground. Republicans have used their House majority to try to gut Michiganders’ health care and critical programs to help working families while attacking Michiganders’ rights. Putting Democrats back in control of the legislature will provide a bulwark in a critical state before the 2028 presidential election and unleash progress in the state.
The DLCC has helped Michigan Democrats recruit candidates to run for every legislative seat in the state, and in May, Chedrick Greene won decisively in a majority-deciding special election in one of the toughest districts in the nation. Working directly with the Michigan House and Senate caucuses, the DLCC is ready to deliver support and resources for data, research, and direct voter contact. 2026 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shift the balance of power across the country, and Michigan is a top target to build durable governing power in a crucial presidential battleground. With less than 100 days until Election Day, the DLCC is executing on our historic Target Map and strategy.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“While Michiganders struggle in the Trump economy, Michigan Republicans are focused on making lives even harder by gutting health care and essential programs that help working families stay afloat and waging pointless culture wars. We’re in striking distance of retaking control of this battleground legislature and when Democrats are in charge again, they will continue to use their power to protect workers, treat their constituents with dignity, and build a fairer economy. We’ll be fighting for every single seat to make this possible and the DLCC is proud to partner with these incredible candidates and build durable Democratic governing power in this critical battleground state.”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) leads the national strategy to secure Democratic power in our state legislatures. We are the campaign arm for more than 3,000 state legislators and thousands of candidates across all 50 states who are advancing Democratic values and standing up to the dangerous MAGA agenda every single day. Over the last decade, our work has flipped 10 new chamber majorities. Those new majorities have ensured Democrats in state legislatures are positioned to protect our democracy and fundamental rights, while addressing the high cost of living and advancing opportunities. The DLCC’s national strategy and target map continue to pinpoint the most efficient paths to Democratic power across all 50 states.Â
