DLCC Convenes Progressive Down-Ballot Strategy Session
Groups New to State Legislative Campaigns to Discuss 2017-2018 Strategy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post is assembling almost a dozen groups who have emerged amid the increased progressive focus on down-ballot elections in recent months. Participants in the It Starts In The States strategy session will discuss the state legislative electoral landscape in the cycle and years ahead, and it is the first of many such meetings to come. Participants in Friday’s strategy session include Run for Something, Sister District, She Should Run, Only If You Run, Flippable, SIX Action, Next Gen Climate Action, Our Revolution, Emerge America, and Priorities USA.

“Since last November’s elections, DLCC has spearheaded a shift in progressive politics that tilted attention towards state-level elections and campaigns” said Post. “DLCC is excited to see a renewed focus on down-ballot races from Democrats and progressives, some of it manifesting in a series of special election victories in recent months. Additionally, some of this focus and energy is finding form in groups newly active in the state legislative space. We are excited about these new players who understand that focusing time, energy, and talent on down-ballot races has wide-ranging and long-term benefits for the party and for activists across the country.

“DLCC is pleased to welcome these groups as new weapons in our arsenal as our experienced team employs its data tools, expertise, and on-the-ground infrastructure across the country in our fight to flip state legislatures and build Democratic power in states.”
