Democrats Hold State Senate Seat in Competitive Special Election
DLCC Celebrates as Massachusetts Democrats Hold Supermajority in State Senate
WASHINGTON -- Tonight Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post congratulated Massachusetts state Senator-elect Paul Feeney on his victory in the competitive special election for the Bristol & Norfolk Senatorial District. Feeney, a telecommunications worker, ran a strong campaign built on a commitment to work to address student debt, provide affordable health care, and close the wage gap between men and women. The DLCC invested $10,000 through the state party to ensure a strong Get Out the Vote program.
“Democrats’ win tonight in yet another competitive special election speaks to the quality of our candidates and the effectiveness of our strategies,” said Post. “From Oklahoma to Massachusetts, Democrats are fired up and ready to fight for their communities and defend American values in the Trump era. We are proud of the DLCC’s work to deliver this special election win and we look forward to carrying Democrats’ winning momentum into Washington, New Jersey, Virginia, and the 2018 midterm elections.”
This victory is just the latest in a series of Democratic special election wins as the DLCC lays the groundwork for substantial gains in 2017 and 2018 in statehouses across the country. Democrats have successfully flipped eight legislative seats from red to blue and overperformed in the vast majority of legislative special elections since Trump’s inauguration.
State Democrats recently scored critical victories in Iowa, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, New York, New Hampshire, and elsewhere. DLCC looks forward to continuing their support of Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey, Washington, and beyond as they build on Democrats’ winning momentum heading into the 2018 elections.
