In honor of the 10 chambers we moved towards Democratic
control in 2004, here are 10 Action Steps to ensure
that 2006 is an even better year for Democrats running
for our state legislatures. Your actions will also
make sure Democrats are prepared for the next round
of redistricting, currently scheduled for 2010, but
which may come any time in light of the June Supreme
Court ruling.

Check the DLCC Web site often.

Sign up
for DLCC e-newsletters on our home page.
We’ll
alert you to actions and breaking news.

| 3. |
Support
Democratic legislators in tight races by volunteering or contributing. One volunteer
can often put a small race over the top to victory.

| 4. |
Get a yard sign, bumper sticker, or button for
the Democrat running in your district – name
recognition matters in these races!
|
| 5. |
Contribute
to the DLCC. A larger percentage of our budget
goes straight out into the field than other campaign
committees. Donating to the DLCC is also a way
to guarantee that your contribution is going
where it will have the most impact: targeted
chambers and races.

If you have a blog, blog about redistricting
and statehouse races, and link to the DLCC website.
|
| 7. |
If you read political blogs or online political
chats, talk or ask questions about legislative
races.
|
| 8. |
If your local paper or radio station covers
these races, thank them.
|
| 9. |
If not, write a letter to ask them why not.
|
| 10. |
Spread the word. Talk about legislative races
to your family and friends. Bring other activists
to volunteer with you. Forward on news about legislative
races. Share this list with friends who want to
ensure that Democrats control our statehouses and
that we have a seat at the table for the next round
of redistricting, to ensure competitive districts. |
