Hey, I'm not proud. Pick me! Pick me!
(This is like being back in grade school again.)
I'm running for an open seat in redder-than-red Idaho. Let me tell you why I think I can win.
1. in the primary, when there was no contested Democratic race and when Democrats had no reason to show up and many Democrats crossed over to vote on the Republican side (which is legal in this state) I still got 15% of the total vote.
2. The incumbent was defeated, which indicated to me some level of Republican discontent.
3. Lots of people have moved here in the past two years, including people from more liberal places, young people, and Hispanics (who tend to vote Democratic).
4. My opponent has no experience, and his community involvement is limited to his church, whereas I have a Masters in Public Administration and an internship with the Legislature (on top of 20 years as a writer and analyst in Silicon Valley).
5. My opponent belongs to a conservative religious group that does give him some built-in base, but turns off some other people, who may well choose a Democrat over someone from that group.
6. My opponent is running a lackluster campaign; his website hasn't been updated since before the primary, he was two months late submitting his answers to the newspaper for endorsement, and I've gotten no mail nor seen no signs of his since the primary.
7. I have better ideas! but hey, don't take my word for it. Check it out for yourself, with our newspaper's unabridged audio of their endorsement interviews:
