Wisconsin GOP Senator: Paul Ryan "Absolutely a Hero"
Last week, Talking Points Memo noted that Wisconsin GOP recall target and state Sen. Alberta Darling could be headed into a “Medicare trap.”
TPM has learned that Ryan will be attending a fundraiser for Darling [Friday] in
The coordinator for the event told TPM she invited Ryan as a "courtesy," but the Darling campaign told TPM they expect Ryan to attend.

Ryan has already proven to be an issue in the recall fight. Last month, an invite to a fundraiser for state Sen. Dan Kapanke (R) featuring Ryan sparked controversy and led to an eventual Ryan no-show.
The DLCC saw the invitations as an opportunity to point out the significant level of disconnection with middle-class voters that has been produced by GOP extremism at all levels of government.
"Working families and the middle class clearly come last to all Wisconsin Republicans, regardless of the office they hold," said Carolyn Fiddler, spokesperson for the DLCC. "The kind of extreme right-wing agenda items supported by both Rep. Ryan and Sen. Darling sparked the recalls in the first place, and Rep. Ryan's support of the subject of one of those recalls is a fitting reminder of that fact."
At the time, Sen. Darling’s campaign office declined to comment on her stance on her fellow Republican’s Medicare proposal.
Sen. Darling clearly had shaken that reluctance by the time of her fundraiser on Friday night, as captured and posted publicly by an attendee.
Asked by an attendee at the fundraiser what she thinks of Ryan’s plan, Darling scoffs at Dem efforts to make Ryan a liability. “They were trying to tie me to Ryan and thought that would be a negative for me,” she says. “I’m standing with Ryan — anytime, anywhere.”
“Go Paul Ryan!” Darling adds. “He’s absolutely a hero!”
Whether or not Sen. Darling’s fellow GOP recall targets share enough affection for Rep. Ryan and his policies to join her in the "Medicare trap” remains to be seen.
However, the six Republicans facing recalls already share the most crucial policy position of all in these elections: support for Gov. Scott Walker’s evisceration of workers’ rights and broadside attack on
