Democrats Victorious in Final Wisconsin Recalls

DLCC Congratulates Sens. Holperin, Wirch on Their Wins

Washington, DC- With 130 of 166 precincts reporting, Democratic Senator Jim Holperin has been declared the winner of the Wisconsin recall election in SD 12 with 54 percent of the vote. Earlier this evening, we learned that Democratic Sen. Bob Wirch won the SD 22 recall with 57 percent of the vote. Michael Sargeant, Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, issued the following statement regarding these successes.

“Tonight’s victories in the final two Wisconsin recall elections are enormous triumphs for not only for the residents of the 12th and 22nd Senate Districts, but also for Democrats across Wisconsin and across the country,” said Sargeant.

“Sens. Holperin, Wirch, and twelve other Democrats began this battle last February when they stood up to Governor Scott Walker, his GOP statehouse cronies, and their extreme right-wing agenda. Now these state Senators will continue their fight for working families, kids, and middle-class values with two new Democratic colleagues.

“This is an epic victory in the battle to loosen the Republican stranglehold on Wisconsin state government. Tonight’s Democratic wins are not only part of a broad rebuke of the Wisconsin GOP’s out-of-touch, anti-middle class agenda, but also a warning shot in the ongoing fight against right-wing extremism in states across the country.”

I feel the trend is moving in the right ddirection, but we need to keep it going. We need to persue the recall of Walker and the new senators. The problem is most of the folks in the middle do not know the details of the law that was passed. If that information was made public, it would change lots of minds.
